unto you
 c. 2005, Miriam M. Wynn

Is it wrong to want to hunt you, possess you?
My astrological profile whispers fearfully that I’m dangerous and extreme;
I will not do anything you don’t want me to,
and if you don’t want me to
I’ll take only the dark things your body promises to me.

In most eyes I find a fear of knowing,
A fear of walking into hallways where the shadows are live;
I hear you whispering and lowing,
Tiptoeing among the cows afraid to poke your head above
But I have seen you gesturing and slowing,
Sticking your neck out when no one’s looking
To lift your eager tongue tip to the air and find the
Salty sweet burn out for yourself.

I myself will not lie and tell you I don’t hold my breath
When darkness roams, eating up all protestations,
Forcing confessions and wild gesticulations,
Shredding fingers erupting from beneath skin;
I walk barefoot within the glass,
Trying to find some other soldier,
Some other warrior who speaks my language,
The language of my split-forked tongue.

Your skin is wet and slick with knowing,
You try to hold it in, but in your eyes I see the glowing,
There is no hiding from all this sin;
You’re as human and dirt-made as I am,
As pure as the peeling sun,
Shedding your layers when I’m near you,
Molting out of all the lies you’ve cultivated
To redo the thing you want undone.

Is it wrong to hunt your cries of horror?
Your sweet horror at finding out your truths,
You walk the dark paths with me,
Slide into my smoke lit back booth;
They tell me I want to walk all over you,
And squish you down into the earth;
They tell me I must want to abuse and own you,
A sweet dominant mistress of the hearth;

They hint that I should feel some wrong at
Rubbing my sharp heel into your shaft,
And yet the mistake is in their knowing,
Their looking fore instead of aft.

Instead, I find with my sharp nails the beauty
Of your blazing, awful rage;
Your claws unsheathe to match my own and tear me
Lustfully limb from limb;
You meet my attacks with wild abandon,
As our cruelties ricochet around our zoo,
And with these base and foul fits of power,
You do to me as I do unto you.
